DIRECTOR, MEYMUNA HUSSEIN-CATTAN
Afro-Indigenous to East Africa and born in a refugee camp, Meymuna is passionate about creating conversations around global and local issues as it pertains to migration. In 2010 Meymuna and her mother, Owliya, established The Tiyya Foundation, an award-winning grassroots organization. In 2018, she established Flavors from Afar Catering Service as an extension of the nonprofit organization to ensure sustainability. Meymuna has been recognized by the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, was a PBS/ KTLA Local Hero nominee, and selected Woman of the Year by Congressman Adam Schiff.
PROGRAM MANAGER, CHRISTIAN DAVIS
Christian joined the team in 2020 and led the way in transitioning our catering service into a beautiful restaurant now located in Los Angeles. Christian currently manages all operations at the restaurant. Due to his creative spirit and commitment during a global-pandemic, he is formally recognized as the Co-Founder.
As an expert in customer relations and communications, he helped to package our mission onto various platforms such as UNHCR, LA Magazine, Food-52, Postmates Blog, CBS Podcast, KISS FM, and other media outlets.
PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR, KENNA COPES
A graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education, Chef Kenna brings her expertly crafted talent as well as her infectious and fun persona to the Flavors from Afar kitchen. As the Program Instructor and Head Chef, she's one of the most essential members of the Flavors From Afar team.

Our amazing team is not complete without our resident chefs. Malia Hamza has been a member of Flavors from Afar since our inception in 2018. Working alongside Sonia Ortiz, who has over 38 years of experience in the restaurant sector - these two make a dynamic duo and we are so grateful.
